If I'm being honest, I was a bit afraid of this release, mostly because it was supposed to be a major rewrite. I'm generally not a huge fan of rewrites, and I don't think I'm the only one on the Internet who thinks that way.
Luckily, the update seems to have been less of an event as I anticipated.
That's because the (years in progress) 'rewrite' was essentially abandoned, shoved into a 'cpp' branch on master, and a new 3.0 branch Christened, with not a lot of changes (mostly splitting things out from core into other projects).
And now Martin is considering yet another (core) re-write, this time in Rust.
