Do professional accountants make things more complex than they are about debit and credit?

It's a field of study with hundreds of years of history. It's just a matter of practices imo.

Corporate financial reporting is very different from personal one. There are hundreds of pages of written rules about them. It's not like it's derived from logical equations or what not. It's by design made to be strictly followed.

When learning about credits and debits for the first time, I thought it was terribly unsatisfying to hear "just remember which accounts are credits and which ones are debits." The signed values of plaintext accounting programs actually helped me understand the relationships between credits and debits much more clearly. I'm grateful for that!
