I'm very pleased to announce hledger 1.99.6 (2.0 preview release 6).
This is the last preview before hledger 2.0, due next month;
by using it, you'll help make 2.0 better!
(hledger is accounting software for both beginners and experts,
using human-readable, version-controllable, future-proof plain text files.
It's dependable, free, fast, friendly, cross-platform, double-entry,
multi-currency, multi-interface, multi-language, GPLv3+-licensed, and fun.

A reminder of current status
hledger 1 is receiving only essential fixes; the hledger 2 preview releases are
strictly better, and normally require no changes to your hledger 1 data.
hledger 2's goals have been:
- continue and improve 1.x's reliability
- provide excellent lot tracking and capital gains calculation
- explore ethical use of AI as a dev tool
- more cleanup and simplification of code, docs, process, finance
- more speed
- more interoperability
- more use of jj for version management
- easier contribution
Our current AI policy is here: AI - hledger
If you disagree with it, please continue enjoying hledger 1,
and be patient while we navigate this period. In summary:
-
hledger, hledger-ui and hledger-web do not use AI at runtime.
-
hledger 1.52.1 and below had no AI-assisted development.
(Level 0, Using AI to Contribute to Open Source | VisiData) -
hledger 1.52.2+ contains a few small security fixes backported from 2.x
(Level 2-4) -
hledger 2 uses careful AI-assisted development (Level 5).
As a result, it has become more secure, more correct, better tested, better documented,
and much faster. -
Providing an efficient tool that AI users will use, can help reduce
wasteful AI computation, offsetting resource usage during development.
