I agree about the value of colour coding in ledger-mode. Tip: I installed and compared a few different emacs color themes (M-x list-packages, M-x customize-themes):
and picked one that looked great in ledger-mode - spacemacs-dark, currently. I like that uncleared entries and flycheck errors show up in red:
(Or you could customize the specific faces used by ledger-mode, perhaps only in that mode, but who has time for that.)
