While updating the hledger performance page, I did some testing of other apps. I think this is the first detailed multi-PTA-app performance test. Check out the results, and see if you can reproduce them!

🏎 ⚡ [https://hledger.org/PERFORMANCE.html#other-apps](https://hledger.org/PERFORMANCE.html#other-apps)⚡🚀

[Updates:]

- changed Ledger's and Tackler's balance reports to flat mode, like the other apps.
- filled in some missing results
- ranked by speed. (Who's at the top now ?)
- charts!

Hi,

When testing tackler's performance, please use "flat" mode for balance and balance-group reports.

Tackler's default mode of balance report ("tree") is more complex than with other PTA tools. Using "tree"-mode for benchmarks is nonsensical.

With flat mode, performance of tackler is around 900k txn/s, depending on HW and account data.

The default configuration generated by `new` command has following explanation:

```auto
###
### Balance and Balance Group Reports
###
### There are two different kind of Balance family reports: flat and tree
### - `tree` reports balance for an account and for all its children accounts
### - `flat` reports balance only for an account
###
### You can select between these with `type` option on `balance` and `balance-group`
balance = { title = "Balance Report", type = "tree" }
```

There is more explanation here: [Balance Report :: Tackler // Docs](https://tackler.fi/docs/tackler/latest/reports/report-balance/#flat-balance) and [Balance Report :: Tackler // Docs](https://tackler.fi/docs/tackler/latest/reports/report-balance/#tree-balance)
